Frequently Asked Questions
A mahjong cake is a birthday cake built around the game, featuring edible mahjong tiles and often a recreation of the table itself.
At Tings Bakery, a mahjong cake includes hand-made edible tiles shaped and painted individually, any tile combination you want including a specific winning hand, and optional 4D, TOTO or casino elements. A money pulling mechanism can be built in at no extra cost.

Yes. Every tile on our mahjong cakes is edible and hand-made.
Each tile is shaped individually rather than pressed from a mould, with the face markings piped and painted by hand. Bamboos, characters, circles, winds and dragons are all drawn tile by tile, so nothing has to come off the cake before serving.

Our 28 mahjong and casino designs run from $150 to $230.
The price reflects the tile work rather than the size, because every tile is shaped and painted by hand. A design with a full wall or a specific hand takes considerably longer than a piped one. Chinese lettering, real 4D numbers and a money pulling mechanism are all included at no extra charge.

Yes, and it is the most personal version of this cake we make.
Send us the tiles as a photo, a written list or a screenshot from a mahjong app, and we will lay that exact hand out in edible tiles. Give us the full week for a hand with a lot of tiles in it. As far as we know, nobody else in Singapore offers this.

Yes for 4D. We print real 4D slips and lottery-ticket designs.
Send us the numbers exactly as you want them to appear on the 4D slips, whether that is the numbers they always play or the date of the birthday, so we can confirm before printing.

Yes. We print or use Chinese characters topper in the placement and script style you want.
Send us the exact characters on WhatsApp rather than a translation. We would rather confirm them with you than guess.

An 8 inch serves 8 to 12, a 10 inch serves 13 to 25, and two-tier options cover 26 to 45.
Measurements are the diameter of the cake, not the height. A full table design reads best at 10 inch or larger, because the tiles need room to be legible.

A 10 inch or larger.
On an 8 inch the tiles stop being legible from across a room, so we would keep the design to a fanned hand or a single large 發 rather than a full table scene. Tell us the design you want and the headcount and we will recommend the size that serves both.

Yes, and mahjong is the most Chinese New Year appropriate product we make.
A design with 發 lettering, a pineapple for prosperity, or a full 4D-and-tiles treatment fits a reunion table without competing with it. Add a money pull and the ang bao is built in. The weeks before Chinese New Year are our busiest, so order early.

About a week, and hand-made tile work on intricate designs needs the full week.
A specific winning hand needs longer than a single decorative tile. Standard designs from our 28 need 3 to 5 days. The weeks before Chinese New Year fill first, so if the birthday falls then, order early.
