Tings Bakery has been making first birthday cakes in Singapore since 2019, from our own SFA-licensed kitchen at The Adelphi in City Hall. With 361 designs, this is the largest first birthday range on our site. We can reduce the sugar, lighten the cream and design without hard non-edible decorations when the cake is going in front of a one-year-old. Tell us it is for a baby and we will adjust it rather than waiting to be asked.
What Is a First Birthday Cake?
A first birthday cake, also called a 1st year birthday cake or a first year birthday cake, is the cake for a child’s first birthday party: usually themed, usually photographed heavily, and usually eaten by adults rather than by the child.
That last point shapes everything. A one-year-old will taste a spoonful and put their hand in the rest. The guests, who are mostly grandparents, aunties, uncles and the parents’ friends, are the ones who actually eat it. So a good 1st birthday cake has to do two jobs at once: look right in the photographs, and be appropriate for a baby to touch and taste.
What we can adjust for a first birthday cake:
- Reduced sugar and a lighter cream
- Fresh cream instead of fondant
- A softer sponge
- A separate small smash cake for the baby
Why Singapore Parents Choose Tings for a First Birthday
361 Designs
The largest first birthday cake range on our site, covering animals, characters, rainbow, safari, pastel and photo-print themes, or send us a photo of the party theme.
We Adjust It for a One-Year-Old
Reduced sugar, lighter cream, softer sponge, fresh cream instead of fondant. Tell us the cake is for a baby and we make those changes as a matter of course.
A Published Size and Servings Guide
First birthdays have the most unpredictable guest lists of any celebration. Our size guide gives the guest count for every option, from 5 to 45.
Honest About Allergens
Tings Bakery accommodates dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free requests on a case-by-case basis when you ask in advance. If your child or a guest has a diagnosed allergy, contact us before ordering and we will tell you honestly whether we can safely take it.
Made in Our Own Licensed Kitchen
Every cake is made at our shop address under SFA Food Shop Licence CE20L85J000, which you can verify yourself on the Singapore Food Agency’s Track Records portal.
We Make Full Month Cakes Too
Both Singapore milestones, twelve months apart, from the same kitchen.

How It Works
Step 1: Choose a Design or Send Us the Party Theme
Browse our 361 first birthday designs, or WhatsApp +65 9169 9195 with a photo of the theme, your date and your rough headcount.
Step 2: Tell Us It Is for a Baby
Say so when you order and we will reduce the sugar and lighten the cream
Step 3: Decide on a Smash Cake
Tell us if you are doing a cake smash photoshoot, because the design choices are different. Softer frosting smashes and photographs better than fondant.
Step 4: Confirm and Pay
Full payment secures the slot, because the date is not held until payment is received. PayNow to UEN 53394429E.
Step 5: Delivery or Collection
We deliver in a 12pm to 3pm or 3pm to 6pm window, or you collect free from The Adelphi. If the party is at home around a nap schedule, the 12pm to 3pm slot is usually safer.
First Birthday Cake Prices
Our 361 first birthday designs run from $100 to $320. Price reflects design complexity rather than size.
What Size Cake for a 1st Birthday Party?
First birthdays have the most unpredictable guest lists of any celebration: both sets of grandparents, aunties and uncles, the parents’ friends, and a handful of other babies who will not eat any of it.
All measurements are the diameter of the cake, not the height. Three practical notes:
- Babies and toddlers at the party will not eat a full slice, so count them as half
- A first birthday cake is photographed more than it is eaten, so if you are choosing between two sizes for the look, the larger one photographs better on a table
- If you are also ordering a smash cake for the baby, size the main cake for the adults only
Is It Suitable for a One-Year-Old?
The honest answer to the questions parents actually ask.
Sweetness
A standard cake is sweeter than most parents want for a one-year-old’s first taste. We can reduce the sugar and lighten the cream on request, at no extra charge. Tell us the cake is for a baby when you order and we will adjust it rather than waiting for you to ask.
Fondant
Fondant is sugar. It is not harmful, but it is very sweet and it is not the part a baby should be eating. If you would rather avoid it entirely, we can finish the cake in fresh cream instead. Fresh cream also photographs better in a cake smash, so for a photoshoot it is the better choice on both counts.
Decorations and Choking Risk
Some of our designs use styrofoam or wire for structural support, and some use toy figurines as toppers. Those parts are not edible and are not safe for a small child to handle. We will tell you which pieces to remove before serving, and if the cake is going in front of a baby, tell us and we will design without hard non-edible elements on the surface.
Allergens
Tings Bakery accommodates dairy-free, vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free requests on a case-by-case basis when you ask in advance. If your child or a guest has a diagnosed food allergy, please contact us directly before ordering rather than relying on this page. We would rather turn an order down than get this wrong with an infant.
Full Month Cakes and First Birthday Cakes
Two Singapore milestones, twelve months apart, and both worth marking properly.
A full month celebration happens at one month old and is traditionally about announcing the baby to the extended family. The cake sits alongside red eggs, ang ku kueh and glutinous rice, and the designs lean traditional.
A first birthday is the child’s own celebration, and the designs shift from traditional motifs to characters, animals and colour.
We make both. If you are ordering a first birthday cake now and a full month cake is still ahead of you, or the other way round, tell us and we will keep the design language consistent between the two. See Full Month Cakes.

Top-Up and Add-On Options
Fondant name on the cake (+$10). A piped chocolate message on the board is included as standard.
LED lighting (+$5). Useful for an evening celebration.
Flavour upgrade (+$10 to +$25). Six of our eleven flavours carry no surcharge. See Customise Your Own Cake for the full list.
Add a pinata cake for older siblings. A chocolate dome with a free wooden mallet gives the bigger children something to do while the baby has the main cake. See Pinata Cakes.
Add a full month cake. If both milestones fall within your planning window, we will keep the designs consistent.
Frequently Asked Questions
For a larger guest list: a 10 inch serves 13 to 25, a 6 inch plus 8 inch two-tier serves 26 to 35, and an 8 inch plus 10 inch two-tier serves 36 to 45. All measurements are the diameter. Count babies and toddlers as half a serving, and remember a first birthday cake gets photographed more than it gets eaten.
Price reflects design complexity rather than size, so a piped design costs less than a hand-sculpted one of the same diameter. Reducing the sugar, lightening the cream and finishing in fresh cream instead of fondant are all free.
If you would rather avoid it, we can finish the cake in fresh cream instead, at no extra charge. Fresh cream also photographs better in a cake smash, so for a photoshoot it is the better choice on both counts.
Tell us the cake is for a one-year-old when you order and we will adjust it rather than waiting for you to ask.
You do not need both. Plenty of families order one 6 inch and let the baby have it after the slices are cut. If you are doing a photoshoot, order both and tell us, because softer frosting smashes and photographs better than fondant, and lighter colours do not stain a white backdrop.
Fondant does not smash and photographs stiffly. Busy designs compete with the baby, who is the subject of the photograph. And any non-edible decoration has to come off a cake the baby will handle, so it is better not to put it on.
Some designs use styrofoam or wire for structural support and toy figurines as toppers, and those parts are not edible. We will tell you which pieces to remove before serving. If the cake is going directly in front of a baby, say so when you order and we will design without hard non-edible elements on the surface.
We make both. If both milestones fall inside your planning window, tell us and we will keep the design language consistent between them.
WhatsApp the photo to +65 9169 9195 with your date and headcount. Send a picture of the party decorations as well as the cake reference, so we can match the colours properly. We will tell you what we can match, what we would change, and what it costs before you pay.
Send a high-resolution image. Photo-print first birthday cakes work best on a 10 inch or larger, where the image has room to be seen across a room.
Both carry no surcharge. If the cake is for the baby to taste as well, ask us to reduce the sugar on either one. Six of our eleven flavours carry no surcharge in total.
Standard designs need 3 to 5 days and fully custom or 3D designs need 5 to 7. Urgent 1 to 2 day slots are often available on selected designs for an additional charge, so message us with your date rather than assuming it is too late.
They usually run early afternoon around a nap schedule, and the earlier slot fits that better. Allow an hour either side for traffic, and have someone at home to receive it: our driver waits ten minutes and then calls.
Cream cakes with fondant decorations should go in the fridge too. Only fully fondant-covered cakes should be kept out, in a cool air-conditioned room, because condensation forms on fondant once it leaves the fridge. Take a cream cake out about fifteen minutes before serving.
Most venues will receive and chill a cake for a booking if they know it is coming. Delivery is in a 12pm to 3pm or 3pm to 6pm window.
A chocolate dome with a free wooden mallet gives the older children something physical to do while the baby has the main cake. Our pinata cakes start at $155 across 255 designs. See Pinata Cakes.
We do not use pork, lard or alcohol in any of our cakes or ingredients, and our ingredients are Halal-sourced. Our kitchen is SFA-licensed under licence number CE20L85J000.
