Tings Bakery has been making longevity cakes in Singapore since 2019, from our own SFA-licensed kitchen at The Adelphi in City Hall. Every longevity cake can be made with reduced-sugar fillings, lighter cream and a softer sponge, because the person the cake is for is often the person least able to enjoy a standard one. You can choose fondant peaches, and we print Chinese characters including 壽 topper on request.

What Is a Longevity Cake?

A longevity cake is a birthday cake for an elder, built around symbols that wish them a long life. In Singapore it is most often ordered for a milestone birthday and eaten at a family dinner.

The design carries meaning rather than decoration, which is why a longevity birthday cake looks different from any other birthday cake. The peach, the crane and the pine each say something specific, and the 壽 character says it in writing. Getting the symbolism right matters more than getting the colours right, because it is a gesture the whole table reads.

What a longevity cake from Tings Bakery includes:

  • Traditional shou tao peach, crane and pine motifs, or a design of your own
  • Fondant peaches
  • Chinese lettering printed, including 壽 and 福 topper
  • Reduced-sugar fillings, lighter cream and a softer sponge on request
  • A chocolate-piped message on the cake board
  • Restaurant delivery coordinated with the venue

What Each Symbol Means

The peach, 壽桃 (shou tao). The peach of immortality from Chinese mythology, said to grow in the garden of the Queen Mother of the West and to ripen once every three thousand years. It is the central symbol of a longevity cake, and the reason a traditional design is topped with peaches rather than flowers.

The crane. Long life and wisdom. Cranes are often paired with pine in the same design, and a crane in flight is the more common treatment.

The pine. Endurance, from a tree that stays green through the winter.

The character 壽 (shòu). A direct written wish for a long life, printed onto the cake or topper.

The peach blossom and the bat. Less common but traditional, for longevity and good fortune respectively.

The pineapple, 旺 (ong). Prosperity, and a Hokkien pun on “ong lai”. Popular on a combined longevity and prosperity design.

You do not have to use all of them. A single well-made peach on a clean cake reads as more considerate than a crowded design.

Why Singapore Families Choose Tings for a Longevity Cake

Less Sweet, Softer Textures, on Request

Reduced-sugar fillings, lighter cream and a softer sponge that is easier for an elderly guest to eat. Say so when you order. You do not need to ask specially and there is no charge.

Fondant Peaches

Fondant peaches hold their shape through a long dinner which suits your celebration.

Chinese Lettering, Topper or Printed

We print or provide Chinese characters topper including 壽 for longevity and 福 for good fortune, in the placement and script style you want.

Restaurant Delivery, Coordinated

Almost every longevity cake we make goes to a restaurant for a family dinner rather than to a house. Give us the venue and a contact there and we will coordinate the drop.

A Money Pull Can Be Built In

The hongbao tradition and the longevity wish come from the same place. A money pulling mechanism can be built into any longevity design at no extra cost.

Made in Our Own Licensed Kitchen

Every cake is made at our shop address under SFA Food Shop Licence CE20L85J000.

How It Works

Step 1: Tell Us the Milestone

WhatsApp +65 9169 9195 with the birthday, the age being celebrated, the venue and your headcount. Browse our 33 longevity designs or send us a reference.

Step 2: Choose Your Fondant Peaches

We use fondant peaches, which hold their shape through a long dinner. Tell us how many you would like and where, and we will advise.

Step 3: Tell Us Who It Is For

If the cake is for someone in their seventies or eighties, say so and we will reduce the sugar, lighten the cream, soften the sponge and cut back the hard decorations.

Step 4: Confirm the Lettering

Send us the exact Chinese characters or the name as you want it to appear, so we can confirm it rather than guessing from a translation.

Step 5: Confirm and Pay

Full payment secures the slot. PayNow to UEN 53394429E.

Step 6: Delivery to the Restaurant

We deliver in a 12pm to 3pm or 3pm to 6pm window. For an evening dinner, book the 3pm to 6pm slot and have someone at the restaurant to receive it.

Less Sweet and Softer Textures for Elderly Guests

The person the cake is for is often the person least able to enjoy a standard one, and almost nobody in this market talks about it.

Less sweet. We make longevity cakes with reduced-sugar fillings and a lighter cream. This is one of the most common requests we get, it is not an inconvenience, and there is no charge for it.

Softer sponge. We can bake a softer, lighter sponge that is easier to eat. It matters for an elderly guest, and it matters more if there are dental issues in the room that nobody wants to mention out loud.

Fewer hard decorations. Sugar work, hard fondant edges and non-edible structural pieces can all be reduced or left off. The design still reads correctly; it is just easier to serve and eat.

Smaller slices, more of them. Tell us the cake is for an elderly gathering and we will size it so the slices come out modest rather than generous. Most of the table will want a taste rather than a portion.

Tell us who the cake is for and we will make these adjustments as a matter of course.

Which Birthdays Are Longevity Cakes For?

  • 60th The completion of a full sexagenary cycle in the Chinese calendar, and the first birthday traditionally marked with a longevity celebration
  • 70th, 80th, 90th The milestones most of our longevity cakes are ordered for
  • 100th Rare, and we will make it something worth photographing
  • 50th Increasingly common, and there is no reason not to

We also make them for any occasion where the wish itself is the point: a recovery, a retirement, a grandparent’s anniversary, or a family reunion where the eldest member is being honoured.

Longevity Cake Delivery and Collection

Almost every longevity cake we make goes to a restaurant for a family dinner rather than to a house, so the logistics matter.

  • Free islandwide delivery on orders above $180, otherwise a flat $20
  • Sentosa, Changi, Tuas and Jurong Island: additional $15
  • Delivery windows of 12pm to 3pm or 3pm to 6pm, with an hour either side for traffic. Routes are batched and we do not provide live tracking
  • Restaurant delivery: give us the restaurant name, address and a contact there, and we will coordinate the drop with the venue. Most restaurants will hold and chill a cake for an evening booking if they know it is coming
  • Someone needs to be there. Our driver waits ten minutes and then calls, and a redelivery costs $30
  • Free collection from #B1-20 The Adelphi, 1 Coleman Street, two minutes from City Hall MRT. Monday to Saturday 12.30pm to 8.30pm, Sunday 12.30pm to 4.30pm

For longevity cake delivery to an evening dinner, book the 3pm to 6pm window and nominate someone at the restaurant to receive it. If the dinner is at 7pm and nobody will be at the venue before 6.30pm, collection is the safer option. See Cake Delivery Singapore.

Sizes and Servings

Longevity dinners are usually large, so size up rather than down.

Size Serves Typical use
8 inch 8 to 12 One family table
10 inch 13 to 25 Two or three restaurant tables
6 inch + 8 inch, two tier 26 to 35 A larger family gathering
8 inch + 10 inch, two tier 36 to 45 A full restaurant function

Measurements are the diameter, not the height. If the cake comes out after a full Chinese banquet, most of the table will take a small slice, so you can size down one step. Tell us the headcount and we will recommend the right size.

Lead Times

  • Standard designs from our 33: 3 to 5 days
  • Intricate traditional designs and hand-piped lettering: 5 to 7 days
  • Money pulling combination: about a week
  • Urgent orders: 1 to 2 days on selected designs, subject to slots and an additional charge

The weeks before Chinese New Year are the busiest of our year and fill first.

Frequently Asked Questions

The peach, 壽桃 or shou tao, is the peach of immortality from Chinese mythology and the central symbol of a longevity cake.

Traditionally the milestone decades: 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th and 100th.

The 60th matters particularly because it completes a full cycle in the Chinese calendar. We also make a longevity birthday cake Singapore families order for 50th birthdays, retirements, recoveries and any occasion where the wish itself is the point.
Yes, and there is no charge for it. We make longevity cakes with reduced-sugar fillings and a lighter cream on request.

It is one of our most common adjustments, so tell us when you order. You do not need to ask specially.
Yes. We can bake a softer, lighter sponge that is easier to eat, and reduce or leave off hard sugar decorations.

Tell us who the cake is for and we will make those adjustments as a matter of course. We will also size the cake so the slices come out modest rather than generous, because most of the table will want a taste rather than a portion.
We use fondant peaches. Fondant peaches hold their shape through a long dinner and photograph better. You can also have little fondant peaches on the cake.
Yes. We print Chinese characters including 壽 and 福 or in topper form, in the placement and script style you want.

Send us the exact characters on WhatsApp rather than a translation, so we can confirm them with you before piping.
Yes. A customised longevity cake Singapore families order for a milestone can carry the full traditional vocabulary while still being built to your specification.

That means the peach, crane and pine motifs, and 壽 topper, combined with your own colour scheme, the celebrant's name, or a second theme such as mahjong. Tell us how traditional you want it to read and we will design to that.
An 8 inch serves 8 to 12, a 10 inch serves 13 to 25, and two-tier options cover 26 to 45 guests.

Measurements are the diameter, not the height. Longevity dinners are usually large, so size up rather than down. If the cake comes out after a full Chinese banquet, you can size down one step.
Yes, and most of our longevity cakes go to a restaurant rather than a home.

Give us the venue name, address and a contact there and we will coordinate the drop. Longevity cake delivery is in a 12pm to 3pm or 3pm to 6pm window; for an evening dinner, book the 3pm to 6pm slot and have someone there to receive it. Delivery is free islandwide on orders above $180, and a flat $20 below that.

Yes, and it is a popular combination for a milestone birthday: the hongbao tradition and the longevity wish in one cake. The money pulling mechanism is included in the cake price at no extra cost.

Up to twenty notes in any denomination. Twenty $10 notes comes to $200, and twenty $50 notes to $1,000. You pay the cash amount with the order by PayNow and we load the notes.
Yes, and for a father's or grandfather's 70th or 80th it is the combination we make most often.

Peaches for the milestone, hand-made edible mahjong tiles for the person they are. Add a money pull and you have all three in one cake. See Casino & Mahjong Cakes.
Signature Chocolate and Classic Vanilla are the two most-ordered, because they suit a mixed family guest list.

Both carry no surcharge. Sweet & Sour Lemon Curd is the lightest of our no-surcharge options and works well when you have asked us to reduce the sugar. Six of our eleven flavours carry no surcharge in total.
Yes. A 60th is the traditional first longevity celebration, because it completes a full sexagenary cycle in the Chinese calendar.

We will often suggest a slightly more elaborate design for a 60th than for a later milestone, for that reason. Tell us the age and we will design to it.
About a week, and longer for intricate traditional work.

Standard designs from our 33 need 3 to 5 days. Intricate hand-piped lettering work need 5 to 7 days or more. The weeks before Chinese New Year fill first.
Collect it if the dinner is in the evening and nobody will be at the restaurant before 6.30pm.

Collection is free from #B1-20 The Adelphi, two minutes from City Hall MRT, and pickup slots are pre-arranged. Otherwise delivery in the 3pm to 6pm window is fine, provided you nominate someone at the venue to receive it.
Refrigerate cream-based cakes as soon as they arrive, and eat the cake within two days.

Cream cakes with fondant decorations should go in the fridge too. Only fully fondant-covered cakes should be kept out, in a cool air-conditioned room.
